David Ormiston

Head Coach

David Ormiston, a native of Chichester, England, brings a wealth of coaching experience and success to Lubbock Matadors SC as Head Coach. A former college soccer player, Ormiston won an NJCAA National Championship with Genesee Community College, earning National Championship Most Valuable Player honors before continuing his collegiate career at Eckerd College.

Following his playing days, Ormiston transitioned into coaching, where he quickly established himself as a rising talent. He played a pivotal role in St. Mary’s University’s historic 2022 season, helping the program achieve an undefeated regular season, win the Lone Star Conference Regular Season Championship, and host the NCAA national tournament as the region’s top seed. His efforts contributed to St. Mary’s earning its first-ever and only ever United Soccer Coaches South Central Coaching Staff of the Year award and helped lead them to a program-best national ranking of #5.

In USL League Two, Ormiston served as an assistant coach for Brazos Valley Cavalry FC under Head Coach, Sean Pierce, where they orchestrated a dramatic turnaround–transforming the club from a last-place finish the previous season into Lone Star Division Champions with the winningest season in club history.

In 2024, Ormiston took the helm of “El Dustico” rival West Texas FC in the NPSL, leading the team to the Lone Star Conference Championship, Lone Star Regular Season Championship, and an NPSL National Quarter-Final appearance. His success earned him a nomination for NPSL Coach of the Year, and he helped guide club captain Olivier Correa to the league’s highest individual honor, the NPSL Golden Ball.

Ormiston also gained valuable experience with St. Petersburg FC in Florida, where he worked as an assistant coach for the club’s USL League Two team and served as Assistant Academy Director for St Petersburg FC Youth.

He holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from Eckerd College in St Petersburg, Florida.
